About my Photography and Myself

Born in Hamburg Germany, I moved to the US in 1985 after a brief visit to California's San Francisco Bay Area. Although formally educated in the field of Engineering, I took up photography while studying at the Georgia Institute of Technology. On weekends I would escape the city and explore the many limestone caves found in the Southeast, or go rock climbing in the surrounding states – two of my favorite activities. Photography was a great means of recording my outdoor adventures.

Spending a significant amount of time in the outdoors gives me the chance to observe landscapes in a way that most people do not see them – the varying qualities of light during a sunrise or the details within a simple composition. I try to capture these moments and images and share them with my photography.

I approach my photography with a lot of patience, dedication, and attention to detail. Using a 4x5 view camera, I place a lot of focus on each image rather than simply taking a host of snapshots; sometimes spending well over an hour on just one image - adjusting the composition and waiting for the right light. Although this approach might not produce large scores of photographs, it does produce an image that satisfies me and conveys as best as possible my interpretation of a particular scene.

While I enjoy photographing many different places, I have always been fascinated with the wide-open wilderness of the American West - the great mountain ranges, forests, and th
eunique desert landscapes. After living in the Southeast for 15 years, in 2004 I moved to the mountains of Colorado, where I currently reside.

Please look around. I hope you enjoy my images as much as I enjoy capturing them.
